Happy Veteran's Day
To the Men and Women who have fought for our country!
The history of Veterans Day dates back to 1918 when, at the end of the Great War, the armistice was signed and on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month the guns fell silent on what was then known as the Western Front.
On June 1, 1954, the 83rd Congress enacted Public Law 380 which changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Later that year, in the very first presidential Veterans Day Proclamation, President Dwight D. Eisenhower described the day as one for a grateful nation to pay appropriate homage to veterans of all wars.
This year as we celebrate Veterans Day, I encourage you to remember all those who have fought, served and sacrificed to make our country the land of the free and the home of the brave.
I personally thank you for the work you have done and continue to do in support of the warfighter. Enjoy your families and have a safe holiday.
